Rumors are circulating that the Boy Scouts of America, which was founded in 1910, is contemplating filing for bankruptcy protection as a strategy to protect its local scouting councils and the billions of dollars – upwards of $4.5 billion – in assets they hold from sexual abuse claims. To date, the organization is facing 300 lawsuits alleging sexual misconduct by employees and volunteers.
